Young and the Restless Spoilers: Could Summer Newman Return to Y&R and Confront Victoria Over Kyle?
A major shift behind the scenes at The Young and the Restless is sparking widespread fan hope for dramatic returns that could shatter Genoa City’s fragile alliances. With Jamey Giddens and Dan O’Connor recently stepping into the roles of co-head writers to take over for Josh Griffith, it is only a matter of time before their fresh vision hits the airwaves.
Along with this breath of fresh air, viewers are wondering if the new writing team will feel it is time to bring back several long-lost fan favorites to revitalize the canvas. Here are three major characters who need to return to Y&R storylines as soon as possible to blow up the drama across town.
1. Summer Newman
Summer Newman—last portrayed by Allison Lanier—exited the canvas rather abruptly in May 2025, and Genoa City has simply not been the same since.
Unlike many off-screen departures, Summer’s exit is unique because she remains constantly mentioned in dialogue by her family and friends. Because she is kept so fresh in the audience’s mind, she could easily be reinserted into active storylines at any moment.
Her potential return would unleash massive explosive drama on multiple fronts. This is especially true now that her aunt, Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle), has hopped into bed with Summer’s ex-husband, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor).
Whether the show brings back Lanier, original portrayer Hunter King, or introduces a brand-new recast, countless fans would love to see Summer pack her bags, leave Italy behind, and come back home to reclaim her place in the Newman-Abbott crossfire.
2. Tucker McCall
Whether he is pulling shady maneuvers behind closed doors or operating entirely on the “up and up,” Tucker McCall has always possessed an unrivaled talent for stirring the pot on The Young and the Restless.
The character was last brought to life by Trevor St. John. However, because Tucker has been portrayed by multiple actors over the years, the show could easily bring him back using a new recast.
His return would immediately send shockwaves through several lives. Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver) is currently single, and seeing Tucker walk back into town would undoubtedly flip her world completely upside down.
Alternatively, Tucker might return with pure intentions, seeking to mend broken fences with his son, Devon Winters (Bryton James), and build a genuine bond with his grandson, Dominic Winters (Ethan Ray Clark).
There is also the corporate battlefield to consider. As Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) vies for control of Chancellor, Tucker could reappear specifically to throw a massive wrench into Billy’s grand ambitions. Either way, bringing Tucker back into the Genoa City mix would inject instant tension into the business and personal dynamics on canvas.
3. Avery Bailey Clark
It has been a hot minute since Phyllis Summers’ (Michelle Stafford) sister, legal eagle Avery Bailey Clark (last played by Jessica Collins), was seen in Genoa City. Because of her long absence, a surprise return for Avery would be massive, to say the least.
Avery notably shares a romantic history with Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow), and daytime fans know all too well how much Nick loves reuniting with his exes.
During the Thursday, September 10 episode, Phyllis made an interesting comment while chatting with Sharon Newman (Sharon Case). Phyllis told Sharon that she is the only other woman who can admit to loving Nick without Phyllis getting upset—and vice versa.
Imagine the sheer amount of family chaos that would erupt if Avery returned to town and reignited her old flame with Nick. A romantic reunion between Nick and Avery would definitely rub Phyllis the wrong way, creating a bitter rift that could even cause major problems between Phyllis and Matt Clark (Roger Howarth).
