A massive corporate and familial war is quietly brewing at the gates of the Quartermaine mansion, and it could bring a familiar face back to Port Charles to settle an old score. According to the latest General Hospital spoilers and updates, a compelling rumor is floating around that Dillon Quartermaine (most recently played by Robert Palmer Watkins) might return to town in a highly unexpected capacity—as Serena Baldwin’s (Kelly Kruger) ex! With Serena officially heading back to Port Charles to help her mother, Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring), protect her empire, pitting two former flames against each other would make for the ultimate soapy conflict.
A History of Separate Lives and a Potential Romantic Past
It completely makes sense for Dillon to return at a pivotal time like this. A lot could have easily happened during the years Dillon has been absent from the canvas, and it seems entirely possible that he and Serena could have gotten together during their time away. However, if they did share a romantic history, he is much more likely to be an ex-boyfriend than an ex-husband. After all, the fiercely protective Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) surely would have said something to the family if she had known her younger son was getting married.
When the two were last mentioned on screen, they were living entirely separate lives in different parts of the country. Serena was reportedly residing in Florida and spent her time out saving whales, while Dillon had relocated to California to try his hand at breaking into the highly competitive film business.
The catalyst that could bring them both back into the same orbit is Lucy’s recent corporate scheming. Lucy successfully manipulated Brook Lynn Quartermaine Chase (Amanda Setton) into handing over half of her Deception Cosmetics shares—shares that had originally been given to Brook Lynn by Tracy. Tracy is guaranteed to want to reclaim those precious shares from Lucy at all costs, regardless of Serena’s involvement. To successfully pull off a corporate coup, Tracy is going to need to aggregate some more serious Quartermaine power.
As the board stands right now, Lucy and Serena wield significantly more leverage than Tracy and Brook Lynn. To make matters worse, Brook Lynn is still fundamentally unready to deal with her own mother. Calling Lois Cerullo (Rena Sofer) back into the equation is completely out of the question—not just for Brook Lynn’s emotional sake, but for the stability of young Gio Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza) as well. In an effort to counter Lucy’s numbers, the family will discuss whether those on Brook Lynn’s mom’s side of the family could potentially vote remotely to protect their interests.
Unveiling Serena’s Return, New Allies, and Corporate Tangles
While a leaker at Daytime Dish didn’t explicitly clarify if Dillon will be a recast like Serena, or exactly how long he might stay, history dictates that anytime you get the Quartermaines tangled up in a corporate mess, high-octane drama is bound to follow.
Serena’s formal return is already locked into the schedule, with her first official airdate set for July 30, per TV Insider. Upon her arrival, she will also be dealing directly with Hudson (Troy Lennon Appel), a mysterious businessman who is slated to show up on the canvas at the very end of July. Furthermore, teasers indicate that Serena will quickly find herself sharing scenes with Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson). This connection isn’t surprising given that Michael is a Quartermaine by blood as well, though he will notably be positioned on the opposite side of this unfolding war.
Ultimately, the goal for Tracy’s faction will be executing a tricky plan to get all of the power and ownership of Deception Cosmetics squarely back into Quartermaine hands. From an objective standpoint, such a takeover actually isn’t fair, considering Lucy was the creative force who started the company to begin with. As far as how long Dillon might stick around if he does return, daytime storylines of this nature usually milk all the corporate and romantic drama they possibly can, meaning his stay would likely be a while!
