In the August 17 episode of Days of Our Lives, Rafe Hernandez brought a distinctly reluctant Gwen Rizczech into police headquarters, eager to press her for every scrap of dirty information she possesses on EJ DiMera. However, what was supposed to be a standard law enforcement shakedown quickly turned into a masterclass in psychological warfare. Rafe and Jada Hunter severely underestimated their witness, and Gwen rapidly seized the upper hand, making it crystal clear to everyone in the room who is truly in charge.
Rafe’s Overconfident Trip to Alamainia
It is certainly no secret that Rafe has been utterly desperate to find anything concrete enough on EJ to put the DiMera heir away for good. That obsession reached a fever pitch after Cat illegally hacked the files of Gwen’s lawyer, stealing a critical letter that had been left for Leo Stark. Armed with that stolen piece of evidence, Rafe became convinced that he finally had the definitive goods required to destroy EJ once and for all.
Rafe felt so secure in his position that he took a trip all the way to Alamainia, determined to pressure Gwen into returning to Salem to testify against her former boss. While in Alamainia, Gwen felt intensely coerced to comply with Rafe’s demands to avoid face-to-face prosecution over kidnapping charges involving Dimitri von Leuschner. Caught between a rock and a hard place, Gwen felt she had no choice but to turn against EJ, even going so far as to leave Leo behind in order to secure her immediate freedom and safety.
Gwen Realizes She Holds All the Power
However, once Gwen arrived back in Salem, her attitude shifted dramatically. Jada came into the interrogation room laying down heavy demands of her own, barking orders at Gwen without offering a single shred of reassurance regarding her safety or legal protection. But Gwen refused to back down. Before she uttered a single word about EJ, she demanded full immunity and ironclad protection.
The more Rafe and Jada pushed and threatened her, the more they inadvertently exposed the weakness of their own position. Gwen quickly deduced that the stolen letter wasn’t actually enough to bring EJ down on its own because it was completely inadmissible in court.
