Here’s my take: Days of Our Lives currently has an absolute goldmine of dramatic potential on the canvas, but there is a growing frustration over how quickly these rich plots seem to be wrapping up. On the Tuesday, July 28 episode, Holly was thrilled when EJ DiMera told her he thinks he can convince Amy to drop the legal charges against her. While Holly was understandably relieved by the news, many viewers are left feeling far less enthusiastic about how fast the conflict is evaporating.
With so many compelling dynamics playing out in Salem, the urge to resolve high-stakes conflict before it reaches a full boil feels like a missed opportunity. Why rush through stories that have so much left to give?
Holly and Amy’s Lawsuit Could Keep the Drama Going
The legal threat hanging over Holly had all the ingredients for a long-burning, highly dramatic storyline. While fans don’t believe Sophia is actually dead and are eagerly waiting for her to return to Salem, keeping her mother, Amy, active on the canvas in the meantime makes total sense. If keeping Amy around means she continues her lawsuit against Holly, then so be it.
To be fair, Holly didn’t actually commit the crime she is being accused of in this situation. Sure, she was mean to Sophia—but if being mean were a punishable crime, half of daytime soap operas and most of society would be locked behind bars!
However, Holly has managed to avoid being held accountable for so many of the other questionable things she actually did do in the past. Because of that track record, seeing her suffer through this unfair legal battle feels like a satisfying narrative trade-off. This legal mess could be a fantastic long-term arc for Holly, leaving viewers wondering why DAYS seems so eager to cut it short just as it’s gaining traction.
A Classic Soap Opera Triangle Ends Before the Suffering Deepens
The fast pacing is also undercutting what could have been an iconic, emotional love triangle. When Lexie Carver returned from the dead only to find her beloved Abe Carver remarried to Paulina Price, the show had all the makings of a classic daytime melodrama.
Paulina nobley stepped aside for the sake of Abe and Theo Carver, setting up a situation where everyone was suffering in silence for the greater good. It was ripe with heartbreak and tragic devotion.
Now, however, Lexie is dying again—and the emotional suffering has barely even had room to breathe. The dynamic carried immense emotional weight and deserved a much longer run to let the angst play out organically. Instead, just as the audience began settling into the tragedy, the story appears to be reaching an abrupt conclusion far too soon.
Ari and Liam’s Potential Romance Never Got Off the Ground
A similar rush to wrap things up unfolded with Ari and bad boy Liam. Ari was falling hard for Liam, a single father with a criminal past. Gabi Hernandez had very understandable reasons to loathe the pairing and fear for Ari’s future, leading her to take matters into her own hands by paying Liam a hefty sum to get out of town.
Liam took the money and hit the road. When Ari discovered her mother’s underhanded bribe, she was initially furious at Gabi for meddling in her love life.
Yet, that anger already seems to be fading away rather than exploding into a major mother-daughter feud or driving Ari to search for Liam. What could have been a deeply compelling romance featuring a protective mother, a conflicted bad boy, and a rebellious young woman seems to have stalled out before ever truly getting off the ground.
With Holly’s legal troubles fading, Lexie’s return cut tragically short, and Ari’s romantic fallout cooling off, DAYS is blowing through plot points at lightning speed.
