Yellowstone Spin-Off Marshals Dominates Ratings in Season 2 Ahead of Explosive New Episode

The Yellowstone universe continues to prove its unstoppable momentum on television. CBS’s hit spin-off series Marshals has officially cemented its place as the network’s most-watched scripted drama, kicking off its second season with impressive ratings that once again outpace top-tier broadcast competitors.
Despite an initially lukewarm critical reception during its debut run last year, the Luke Grimes-led series grew into a powerhouse, drawing over 20 million viewers in its first season and surpassing rival hits like Tracker. Now back for Season 2, which premiered on October 4, the procedural drama shows no signs of slowing down as new episodes air Sundays at 8 p.m. ET.
Ratings Juggernaut: Marshals Retains Its Crown
According to Nielsen live and same-day viewership figures reported by CBS, the Season 2 premiere of Marshals drew 8.2 million viewers. That performance comfortably topped CBS’s next most-watched scripted program, Tracker, which pulled in 7 million viewers.
While full comparisons between seasons will take time as Nielsen compiles multiplatform data over a 35-day window, these early numbers demonstrate remarkable audience retention following the intense Season 1 finale, which saw Kayce Dutton (Grimes) and his team in a dramatic showdown against formidable enemies.
The massive success of Marshals reflects the enduring power of the broader Yellowstone franchise. Although the flagship series concluded in 2023, the TV universe expanded under new creative leadership while franchise creator Taylor Sheridan remains involved in an overarching role. Paramount brought in Spencer Hudnut to oversee Marshals, while Chad Feehan created the companion spin-off Dutton Ranch, extending the Dutton family legacy across both broadcast and streaming platforms.
What’s Ahead in Episode 4: “Blast Radius”
As Season 2 moves forward, the stakes are rising quickly for Kayce Dutton and his unit. In the upcoming fourth episode, titled “Blast Radius,” the team finds itself locked in a high-stakes hunt for a dangerous bomber.
The action kicks off when an off-hours fugitive search conducted by Kayce and Andrea (Ash Santos) unexpectedly uncovers the location of a fugitive bomber who previously slipped through Cal’s (Logan Marshall-Green) fingers.
Meanwhile, personal drama and secret threats continue to mount for the rest of the team:
- Belle’s Escalating Troubles: Danger hits close to home for Belle (Arielle Kebbel) as looming threats intensify around her while she continues to grapple with substantial gambling debt.
- Trouble in Paradise: Miles (Tantaka Means) and Maddie (Morgan Lindholm) face unexpected strain in their relationship. Miles is forced to keep secrets from Maddie regarding Cal’s cancer diagnosis, as Cal has not yet disclosed his health battle to her.
With high-octane action, personal secrets, and rising danger threatening the team from all sides, Marshals continues to deliver the intense drama that fans have come to expect from the extended Yellowstone saga.
