After witnessing the WSB arrest her best—and perhaps only—friend, Nina Reeves, Ava faces a terrifying reality. Drew Cain’s shadowy games have already destroyed Nina, and if Ava doesn’t take drastic action soon, she could be the next one wearing prison orange. There are three compelling reasons why Ava might decide to risk her own freedom and throw Drew directly under the bus.
Reason One: Drew Framed Her Best Friend Nina Reeves
The bond between Ava and Nina developed through a remarkably twisted history. Years ago, Ava was married to Dr. Silas Clay—the same Silas who was married to Nina. Their maternal histories are equally tangled and tragic: Nina’s daughters, Nelle Benson and Willow Tait, share half-sibling ties with Ava’s late daughter, Kiki Jerome. Nina never even knew Nelle was her child until after Nelle died, and she nearly lost Willow to leukemia, while Kiki was tragically murdered by Ryan Chamberlain.
Losing Kiki fundamentally transformed Ava, just as discovering Willow was her daughter changed Nina. Both women evolved from lying, conniving manipulators into fiercely protective mothers.
Watching the WSB haul Nina away could be the exact trigger that pushes Ava over the edge. Ava almost came clean to the Port Charles Police Department about Drew’s shady behavior, though it turned out to be too late. However, she may still consider coming forward now, perhaps planning to plead for witness protection in exchange for blowing the whistle on Drew.

Ava’s survival instincts are screaming, and she no longer trusts Drew not to claim she was co-conspiring with Nina to eliminate Jack Brennan. To make matters far worse, Ava was the absolute last person to see Brennan alive before his tragic demise.

Rather than getting Avery away from Sonny, Drew has simply dragged Ava deeper into his web of criminality, turning her into an accomplice to serious crimes. Ava needs to break this toxic cycle before it destroys her completely. Even if testifying incriminates her in minor offenses, securing a spot in witness protection could be her ultimate escape hatch.
