Martin Grey has a habit of stepping into dangerous situations he ought to avoid, but his latest legal and personal lapse could drag him straight into a murder investigation. By providing the digital tools used to sabotage security systems, Martin may have unwittingly made himself an accomplice to Drew Cain’s illegal break-ins—and potentially the unexpected death of WSB Station Chief Jack Brennan.
A Pattern of Risky Clients and Shady Schemes
Martin has frequently aligned himself with less-than-innocent clients, getting pulled into questionable behavior when he should know better. In the past, he committed forgeries alongside Valentin Cassadine and Drew Cain, including the stunt involving Ronnie Bard signing over the Quartermaine mansion and its contents to Drew.
Having only recently returned to Port Charles after facing punishment for that previous scheme, Martin immediately dove right back into deep waters with Drew. To facilitate Drew’s operations, Martin supplied a flash drive containing a virus that Drew inserted into Carly Spencer’s computer, effectively shutting down the security systems and cameras at the Metro Court. While Martin provided the tech, he did warn Drew beforehand. Drew insouciantly assured him that the operation would be completely seamless and that Martin would bear no culpability whatsoever.
Financial Pressures Drive Martin’s Dangerous Choices
Why does Martin consistently take on clients who lead him into legally perilous territory? Much of it stems from his ongoing financial obligations. Paying alimony to at least four ex-wives creates constant monetary pressure, meaning if a client has deep pockets, Martin usually finds the time—even if it means bending the law.
However, Martin has never been involved in a situation that ended in a potential homicide. He currently has no idea that Jack Brennan is dead. After coming up empty in Brennan’s Metro Court suite, Drew simply assured Martin that whatever leverage Brennan held over him would stay buried forever. Martin believes he merely assisted with a high-tech trespass, entirely unaware that a body was disposed of in the aftermath.
Drew’s Egotistical Cover-Up and Brennan’s Demise
Drew Cain possesses an ego large enough to believe he will never face consequences for his actions. Although he may not have intentionally set out to murder Jack Brennan, Drew played a direct role in his death. Drew supplied the pill that Ava Jerome crushed and slipped into Brennan’s bourbon. Whether that dose triggered a fatal overdose or caused a physically compromised Brennan to stumble into the pool and drown, the tragic result remains the same.
There is even speculation that Drew could have pushed the impaired WSB agent into the pool himself. What is clear is Drew’s desperate rush to dispose of Brennan’s body before anyone could connect him or Ava to the WSB station chief’s death—a massive red flag indicating just how far Drew is willing to go.
Drew’s smooth assurances to Martin mean very little given his history. If law enforcement or the WSB connects the digital virus at the Metro Court back to Martin’s flash drive, the attorney could find himself taking the fall for a deadly conspiracy. Drew has proven he will do whatever it takes to protect himself, making Martin’s trust in him a massive liability.
