A Beloved Soap Vet Returns to Lead a Busy Week of Salem Casting Shakeups
Days of Our Lives is shaking up the canvas for the week of August 24, 2026, bringing a major fan-favorite back to town alongside fresh recasts, returning mischief-makers, and a secret newcomer. Leading the pack of exciting casting shifts is soap veteran Matthew Ashford, who is officially reprising his signature role as Jack Deveraux. Jack’s emotional return to Salem brings long-awaited family reunions, but he isn’t arriving alone—he is bringing a pair of newly recast grandchildren right along with him.
Jack Deveraux Returns with Recast DiMera Grandchildren
Jack makes his official return to Salem on Tuesday, August 25. His comeback kicks off with emotional family ties as Gwen (Emily O’Brien) reaches out to her father, paving the way for shared scenes between the two. Jack’s screen time continues into Friday, August 28, when he shares scenes opposite his on-screen older brother, Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols).
When Jack steps back into Salem, he brings his grandchildren, Thomas DiMera and Charlotte DiMera, back home. Both young roles have been officially recast. Cole Gersmeyer steps into the role of Thomas DiMera, taking over for Alexander Elijah Bond. Meanwhile, Pippa Blaylock makes her debut as Charlotte DiMera on Tuesday, August 25, taking over the role previously played by Autumn Gendron.
A Mysterious Arrival, Mad Science, and Babysitting Duty
Beyond Jack’s family reunion, additional casting moves are set to unfold across Salem. In a mystery casting announcement made via the official DAYS Instagram account, actress Sydney Malakeh has joined the soap in an undisclosed role. Viewers will have to wait until September 9 to discover exactly who she is playing and how her character will fit into the current Salem landscape.
Meanwhile, mad science is making a quick comeback. Richard Wharton reprises his role as the eccentric Dr. Wilhelm Rolf. On Monday, August 24, EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) confronts the trusted DiMera employee. Notably, when Wharton originally inherited the iconic role from predecessor Will Utay, he knew nothing about Rolf’s massive legacy or history, but he continues to embrace the villainous doctor’s quirky presence.
Family obligations also bring a familiar face back to the screen on Thursday, August 27, as Judi Evans pops in as Bonnie Kiriakis. Alex Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson) stops by the mansion to drop off his daughter, Kelsey, leaving the little one in the capable hands of his stepmother for a babysitting session.
Departure on the Horizon
While new and returning faces fill the canvas, the week also marks an official departure. On the exit front, actor Peter Porte has officially wrapped up his stint as Dimitri Von Leuschner. Dimitri made his final appearance on-screen on August 19, bringing his current chapter in Salem to a close.
With Jack Deveraux back in the fold, new young actors taking over the DiMera children, and a mysterious character set to debut in early September, Salem’s dynamic is rapidly shifting. How will Jack’s return impact his loved ones, and what surprises will Sydney Malakeh’s secret role bring to town?
