Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Desperate EJ Channels Stefano’s Dark Legacy as a Deadly DiMera Cover-Up Unravels

The ghost of Salem’s most notorious criminal mastermind seems to be alive and well in his son. According to the latest Days of Our Lives spoilers and updates, an increasingly desperate EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) appears to be channeling the ruthless spirit of his late father, the iconic Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo). Faced with total corporate ruin and exposure, EJ is showing the town that he possesses the exact same calculated malice that once made his father a living legend. As his back hits the wall, a terrifying web of cover-ups, medical scandals, and sudden disappearances is threatening to pull the entire canvas under.

The Toxic Secret Buried on Smith Island

The root of EJ’s current downward spiral traces back to a catastrophic corporate disaster that he is desperately trying to keep hidden from the public eye. At the center of the mystery is a bad batch of tainted pills manufactured by DiMera Pharmaceuticals. This specific run of Coraseal pills was laced with deadly arsenic, triggering a massive, panicked cover-up within the highest ranks of the DiMera empire.

To bury the evidence, the lethal medication was hidden away on Smith Island. The only problem for EJ is that the cover-up was handled incredibly poorly. The buried chemicals ultimately leaked, contaminating local underground wells and resulting in the horrific poisonings of Holly Jonas (Ashley Puzemis), Destiny Rowland (Sarah Bartholomew), and her uncast sister, Clia.

While a proactive Julie Horton (Susan Seaforth Hayes) successfully had the Horton Cabin well professionally decontaminated, the threat of exposure remains critical. Dr. Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) and Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) are refusing to let the matter rest, continuously and obsessively investigating the strange medical anomalies. EJ’s primary objective right now is to stop all growing suspicion dead in its tracks, ensuring these tragic poisonings can never be legally traced back to the DiMera name.

EJ’s Catastrophic Day: Fired, Outsmarted, and Cornered

In an effort to keep Sarah’s obsessive digging at bay, EJ attempted to take executive action by firing the inquisitive doctor from her position. However, his heavy-handed tactics instantly backfired on a spectacular level. Chief of Staff Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans) immediately stepped in to protect her staff, and EJ was hit with the ultimate professional humiliation: he found out he had been officially fired from his position by the hospital board.

To make matters worse, a smug Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien) arrived to rub salt in his very fresh wounds. The local hospital had been quietly sold directly to Gwen, a corporate twist that she wasted absolutely no time bragging to EJ about.

To say EJ was not happy about Gwen’s sudden ownership of the hospital would be the absolute understatement of the century.

With a murderous, chilling look in his eyes, EJ coldly warned a triumphant Gwen not to get too excited about her new acquisition. From that exact moment, EJ’s day rapidly went straight to hell in a handbasket. His professional authority was completely stripped away just as his personal life began fracturing, with Lexie Carver (Nikki Crawford) tragically starting to die again and the eccentric Dr. Wilhelm Rolf (Richard Wharton) officially on the run from the law.

A Ruthless Plan B: Framing Holly and Silencing Gwen

However, if history has taught Salem anything, it is that a DiMera does not give up control easily. Because EJ previously managed to get ahead of the immediate water contamination crisis on Smith Island, he has formulated a ruthless “Plan B” to permanently explain away Holly’s ongoing medical struggles and deflect any lingering suspicion away from his family’s pharmaceutical division.

This alternative strategy directly targets an innocent teenager. Viewers recently watched in horror as Tate Black (Leo Howard) discovered two tainted pills hidden directly inside Holly’s bag. Given the strategic timing, chances are highly likely that EJ is the culprit who personally planted—or hired an associate to plant—the incriminating evidence to frame his former stepdaughter and fake a substance abuse relapse.

Furthermore, EJ’s lethal focus appears to have shifted toward permanently silencing his corporate rivals. By the end of the July 17 episode, a celebratory Gwen was suddenly ambushed and forcefully kidnapped by a mysterious thug dressed entirely in black. While a definitive confession has yet to air, fans are widely speculating that EJ is the mastermind who orchestrated the abduction to eliminate her from the hospital equation. When looking at the chessboard of Salem, it seems to be the only explanation that makes logical sense. EJ is fighting for his survival, and anyone standing in his way is officially in grave danger.

What do you think, Days of Our Lives fans? Has EJ officially crossed the point of no return by resorting to kidnapping and framing a teenager to protect DiMera Pharmaceuticals? Will Sarah and Brady manage to piece together the truth about the arsenic wells before EJ can silence them next? Share your thoughts and burning predictions in the comments section below!
